Athlete
Terrence “Terry” Percy Dymond was a prominent Fredericton athlete and a long standing member of the Fredericton Loyalist Rugby Football Club. Terry began his rugby career in the late 1960s while attending Fredericton High School (FHS) and upon graduation joined the Loyalist Rugby Club. Terry’s brother Robert had joined the team a few years prior in 1968, beginning an intergenerational legacy that saw a number of Dymonds don the Loyalist jersey. Terry was known as an especially tough player, and his presence was often felt during the fiercest moments of a scrum. His preferred position was prop, the player in the team’s front row tasked with stabling the scrum and providing support for the hooker. Terry and his fellow teammates won both the 1975 and 1979 Caledonia Cups, a set of interprovincial tournaments in the Maritimes. The 1979 contest concluded with the Loyalists winning by a striking margin: 24-0 against Dalhousie University. In1984, Terry was honoured as the club’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Just one year later, Terry died suddenly of a heart attack at a rugby practice Terry was buried in his team jersey. He was posthumously recognized for his contributions when the Loyalists unveiled the MVP Forward trophy an award named in his honour.
