For many years, PRUDE (Pride of Race, Unity and Dignity through Education) Inc. has been attempting to maintain the Black Burial Grounds which are located at the corner of the Base Road and the St. Martins highway in the Willow Grove area. Permission of the owners of the land, (the Garvin family) was given to the organization to erect a small church on this site, to act as a memorial to those people who are buried there and in the area. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those volunteers who have given so generously of their time to help to maintain the site. We would also like to thank area residents who take the time to call our office and alert us to any problems about the site, or who join us when we are at work on the site.
This year we are planning a major facelift to the site, and would like to ask the help of the general public. Weare seeking any historical information about the Willow Grove area. This information could be in the form of stories, pictures that we may copy, or any other information of the area.
If anyone could provide us any information on this area, it would beavery much appreciated. All information may be mailed to my attention at PRUDE Inc., 47 Charlotte Street, Saint John, N.B. E2L 2H8.
